Kindergarten Benchmarks
This is the Benchmarks Homepage, where you you can find information on what your child should know by the end of Kindergarten as it relates to math and language arts over the course of the year. These benchmarks are used to design instruction that ensures academic skills are aligned PK-4th and that assessments measure growth in these skills. All students are expected to demonstrate ‘on grade’ skills by
the end of the year but many will develop skills beyond this. Teachers will use the following code to communicate information to you about your child:
E= Exceeding M = Mastered D = Developing N/I = Not introduced
All teachers use a variety of assessments, including at the beginning and end of each unit, to measure
growth in the specific skills taught. If a student can apply a skill automatically in a new context, we use the
term ‘mastered’; the student is then ready to learn more rigorous skills. If we find that a student
needs enrichment or extra support, we will contact you, but you can also contact us at any time if
you have questions about your child's skill development in any area. We will automatically include skills
from the next grade level in our instruction as a student shows mastery of ‘on grade’ skills. Reading level (readability and comprehension combined) is measured quarterly and denoted by a letter A-Z.
